Help!

I have a mori seiki sl3 that jumps forward

unexpectedly (z axis toward chuck) SCARY!!

could this be an encoder problem?

Any help would be much apreciated>

this is very possible, you need to remove the cover and see if there is trash or coolant. alot of time the vapors from the coolant will migrate into the encoder housing. seal may be bad.
