3d engraving using autocad

grant ebrey (82.41.145.5) -

having recently purchased a roland pnc2300 3d engraver. i was hoping to use autocad, which i have a reasonable understanding of,to design and input the ideas i wish to create.

Is this possible? and if so what plugin will be required or should i just obtain a more dedicated software package from somewere and learn from scratch?

any advice would be gratefully recieved as i am a novice on the engraving/ modelling side of things

regards Grant

Hi Grant,

AutoCAd will not allow your to engrave in 3D. It is my guess that you are outputing a DXF file to your engraver. DXF will not work in 3D. Are you sure your engraver has a Z axis (vertical) servo or is it manually set.

I can supply you with a CNC program (G code) to engrave 3D immages at a resonable cost. I also have the ability to digitize and create models and artwork.

If you are interested please contact me at cmercer@pennecon.com or call at 709-687-0504

Regards,

Colin

What did you pay for your PNC2300? Was it 2006 that you purchased it? Let me know and we can chat more about it.
